This book, written in Iban, provides a detailed account of an Iban traditional healing rite called Sugi Sakit which is held to cure any aged patient who has little hope of surviving after several other means have been in vain. It is actually a last resort to seek a divine intervention. The book offers elaborate explanation and justification as to how the ritual has the power to heal. It also outlines the sequence of events during healing ritual which culminates in the divination or prognostication rite using a pig’s liver. The full texts of the healing chants are affixed.
Jantan Umbat who hails from Saratok is a holder of Higher School Certificate (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia), Diploma in Teaching English as A Second Language (TESL) from the English Language Institute, Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand and Diploma of Applied Linguistics, University Malaya (Distant Learning). He is currently a Research Officer attached to Tun Jugah Foundation, Kuching, being there since 2001 with a break of 4 years serving as a contract officer in the State Ministry of Social Development from 2013 to 2016. Prior to joining Tun Jugah Foundation, he had served 33 years in the Education Department, Sarawak as a secondary school teacher, Principal/Headmaster and School Supervisor before retiring in 2000. Jantan has authored and co-authored a few other books published by Tun Jugah Foundation namely Ensera Wat Bujang Sugi, Pelian, Ripih Pengawa Gawai Antu and Bup Sereba Reti. He is also the author of the Adat Resam Masyarakat Iban (Custom and Tradition of the Iban) published by Jabatan Perpaduan Integrasi Nasional, Jabatan Perdana Menteri. He also has authored a few novels and a number of short stories in Iban. During his service in the Education Department, Sarawak, he had been an officer-in-charge of the Teaching and Learning of the Iban Language in schools and he had been conferred with several awards such as Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang, Pingat Pangkuan Negara (PPN), Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji (PPT) and Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia (PPS).

Tiga Ensera (Three Stories) is an anthology of three stories, namely Indai Jubang (Mother of Jubang), Kumang Bunsu Ikan Buing (Beautiful Buing Fish Maiden) and Kumang Nyera (Kumang is Food-craving). The three stories are the prize-winners in the Folklore Writing Competition organized by the Tun Jugah Foundation. The first story is about frustrated Indai Jubang who, after losing a communal war where all men from her longhouse were killed, gathered all of their charms and amulets and flew them to the territories of their enemies. These charms and amulets have caused their brave enemies to fall sick, and one of them is Keling of Panggau Libau. The second story is about a war expedition led by Keling to the country of Raja Ribai in order to rescue Ngelai, a brave warrior from Panggau Libau. The last story is all about efforts carried out by Keling and his men, who try to rescue Kumang, who is suddenly discovered lost from their community in Panggau Libau.

Written in classical Iban. The book attempts to examine the various forms and texts of renung adat as they are sung in Sibu, Kapit and Betong Divisions of Sarawak, Malaysia. Renung Adat, a sacred chant, comprises of three categories in Sibu and Kapit Divisions, renung nama’ka tuah, renung ngalu petara, and renung sebayan. Renung Nama’ka Tuah is a song sung during numerous ritual festivals proper (Gawai Amat/Asal)and dream rituals (Gawai Mimpi) for welcoming possessions and riches brought into the family by deities through material manifestations of spiritual blessings. Renung Ngalu Antu is for inviting and welcoming deities and the spirits who will visit us during the riutal festivals. Renung Sebayan is sung during ritual festival for the deads (Ngelumbung). Its purpose is for inviting the spirits of the dead relatives to the feast whereby mourning regulations for the deceased’s family are lifted. The spirits of the deads are expected to give charms for the well-beings of the surviving relatives such as for longevity, prosperity and happiness. Renung Adat Melah Pinang is used in Betong Division in the celebration of a wedding ceremony. Scholars of Iban culture must have a copy of this book in their custody, for it will also give them insights into aspects of rites relating to renung adat.
