DAYAK ASSOCIATION WORKS WITH PSC TO CONVINCE DAYAK YOUTHS TO APPLY FOR GOVERNMENT POST

Kuching: Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA), with the cooperation of the Public Service Commission (PSC), is taking up a challenge to convince more Dayak youth to apply for government posts in federal civil service, said it president Dr Dusit Jaul.

He said SDGA would hold a meeting with various Dayak non-governmental organisation (NGOs) at the Dayak Bidayuh Nasional Association headquarters here tomorrow to outline programmes including a statewide roadshow to reach out to eligible unemployed school leavers and graduates to submit applications for jobs.

"We do not doubt the government's sincerity in wanting to help us (Dayak)fill vacancies in the public service, even though it is a challenge to us, in terms of numbers and time-frame, to submit at least 100,000 applications by yearend," he told Bernama yesterday.

On Oct 30, several Dayak NGOs, including SDGA, had met with PSC Chairman Tan Sri Mahmood Adam to address the low number of Sarawak Natives in the civil service.

This was followed by another meeting with state PSC secretary Mohd Saiful Sungkih Abdullah last week to discuss strategies to achieve the target.

Mahmood, who had said PSC appointed 15 Dayak representatives to correct and explain public misconception on the commission, hope to see an increase among the Dayaks in the civil service in the next two or three years.

Dr Dusit said based on feedback some of the job seekers face problems accessing the PSC websites online, especially in rural areas which lacked internet facility and had to go to the nearest town, which was troublesome.

Quite a number had become sceptical after applying to the PSC online but never received a call for the job interviews. It was a matter of concern that needed to be addressed by the PSC, he pointed out.
